World Class Cooking School Proposed For ArtWorks Building

The vacant Louisiana ArtWorks building on Howard Avenue near Lee Circle would be turned into "a world class, state-of-the-art culinary and hospitality institute" under a plan announced Monday by a group of bidders interested in acquiring the building.

The group, made up of prominent restaurateurs and officials from Tulane, UNO and Delgado Community College, presented their vision for the building at a press conference.

"We believe the best use for this building is to finally, fitfully, mobilize one of our greatest most enduring and culturally distinct assets into a value creating industry that can serve generations of our citizens and spark far reaching entrepreneurial opportunities," says Commander's Palace owner Ti Martin.

The ArtWorks building, which has 93,000 square feet of space, is scheduled to be auctioned off, and bidders have until the close of business Tuesday to submit bids.
