State Health Officials Confirm 11 New West Nile Virus Cases

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals confirmed Friday 11 new cases of West Nile virus, including one death in Lafourche Parish.

The deceased was a man. West Nile virus antibodies were discovered in his system after he was found dead last week.

The new cases bring this year's total in Louisiana to 103 reported infections.

This week's new infections include seven neuroinvasive disease cases in Ascension (1), Lafourche (3), Point Coupee (1), Terrebonne (1) and Washington (1) parishes.

There were two new cases of West Nile Fever, one in Jefferson Davis parish and the other in Livingston parish; and two new asymptomatic cases, one in East Baton Rouge parish and the other in Ascension parish.
