St. Tammany Parish Christmas Tree Recycling Begins

St. Tammany Parish will begin accepting Christmas trees Thursday to be used for marsh restoration.

Only green trees will be accepted; flocked trees, trees with ornaments and lights cannot be used in the recycling program, according to the parish government.

In western St. Tammany, residents can drop trees at the parish fairgrounds in Covington, using the Florida Street entrance.

On the eastern side of the parish, trees can be dropped at the old levee board building at 61134 Military Road near Slidell.

The Times-Picayune reports trees placed at curbside for trash collection may or may not be used in the recycling program.

Residents are advised to contact their trash collection company to find out if it participates in the program.

Deadline for dropping off trees is Jan. 21.
