Open for only a few months before it was damaged by Hurricane Isaac in 2012 and was forced to close, the St. Tammany Fishing Pier has been repaired and reopened.
The pier is located at 54001 East Howze Beach Road near Slidell, on the east side of I-10, exit 261 by the shore of Lake Pontchartrain.
Parish spokesman Ronnie Simpson says the fishing around the pier may be even better than it was when the pier first opened because of an enhancement that was made.
"During the rehabilitation of the fishing pier, the coastal conservation folks put in an artificial reef near the pier, so the fishing should be even better than it was before," Simpson said.
Repairs to the pier cost $389,000 and were paid for with funds from FEMA and the Louisiana Tourism Recovery Program funded by BP.
The pier is open daily from 6am to 5pm. Entrance fees are as follows: $3 for persons 12 and older to fish from the pier, $1 if you're not going to fish. Kids under 12 can enter the pier for free.
Anyone planning to fish must have a valid Louisiana fishing license.
