New Orleans voters will decide October 19 whether or not to change the makeup of the Sewerage and Water Board.
The City Council voted unanimously Thursday to send the proposed City Charter change to voters on that date.
"It's a referendum. It's going into the Charter, the Home Rule Charter," says Council President Jackie Clarkson. "It won't be just a council ordinance that can be changed by ordinance. This will be in the Charter."
The proposal calls for the board to be reduced from 13 members to 11 members.
Board membership would include the mayor, the two syndicate members of the Board of Liquidation appointed by the mayor and eight citizens appointed by the mayor.
