The Port of New Orleans named "2014 Friendliest Home Port" by a top cruise trade publication.
Porthole Cruise Magazine publisher & Editor-In-Chief Bill Panoff says cruisers leaving New Orleans find "welcoming and friendly locals" as well as amazing culture, music and food.
"I always encourage cruisers who are spending time in New Orleans before of after their cruise to let the locals lead the way," he added.
For the third consecutive year, the Port of New Orleans saw record numbers of passengers - 987,860 embarkations and disembarkations in 2013, up 1 percent from 2012.
"The positive trend for cruising from New Orleans continues," says Port President/CEO Gary LaGrange.
Cruise Lines International Association ranks New Orleans as the sixth largest cruise port in the country, up from ninth in 2011.
