Parking restrictions will be in effect early Saturday for the annual Crescent City Classic.
The course, from the CBD to City Park, will become a no-parking zone beginning at midnight and towing will commence. Meters will be bagged and signs will be posted warning residents of parking restrictions.
In advance of the race, at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, NOPD officers will divert all traffic on Poydras Street from South Claiborne Avenue to Loyola Avenue including the areas surrounding the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sugar Bowl Drive, West Stadium Drive and Dave Dixon Drive.
The event begins at 8am on Poydras at Loyola Avenue. The course takes runners through the French Quarter to Esplanade Avenue and then to City Park.
Race participants who are driving to the race are encouraged to park in downtown long term lots and use the shuttle system race organizers have arranged.
Parking enforcement personnel will be monitoring for illegal parking, including blocking hydrants, driveways and sidewalks, parking on the neutral grounds or parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection or stop signs, in the residential neighborhoods adjacent to the starting and finish line, including Navarre, City Park, and Bayou St. John. Motorists are also reminded to park in the direction of travel on one-way streets and with the right wheel to the curb on two-way streets.
In addition, RTA services, including streetcar lines and bus service may be interrupted during the event.
