Ochsner Names Replacement For Slain Hospital Executive

The hospital executive killed in a Dec. 26 rampage had been planning to retire this summer, and his replacement had already been chosen.

Ochsner Health Systems chief operating officer Michael Hulefeld says Tim Allen will start Jan. 13 as chief executive officer at Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital.

He replaces Milton Bourgeois, one of three people killed by 38-year-old Ben Edward Freeman before Freeman killed himself. Freeman also wounded three others, including Bourgeois' wife, Ann.

Bourgeois had said in August that he would be retiring.

Hulefeld said in a news release Thursday that as part of its transition plan, the system had created a new position of chief operating officer for the hospital in Raceland. Jonathan Carothers, an assistant vice president at St. Anne, will take that job.
