The Louisiana State Police chief says the state of Mississippi's decision to place secure drop boxes at 9 motor vehicle offices around the state - where the public can drop off unneeded prescription drugs, no questions asked - is an interesting idea.
But Colonel Mike Edmonson says he has questions and concerns about the decision. For example, how secure are the drop boxes, and is a motor vehicle office the appropriate place to take unwanted prescription drugs?
Edmonson tells 99.5FM a state police troop location may be a better place to locate such a drop box.
"I want to make sure that we don't just allow someone to bring something in and people know that there could be narcotic drugs in that safe and then we have a problem with that, and I don't want to put the liability on our motor vehicle people," Edmonson said.
Edmonson says the drop box idea is worth looking into and he plans to talk to Mississippi officials to see how it's working.
