Loyola Officials Mum On Projected Enrollment Drop

Loyola University New Orleans officials are witholding comment at this time on reports that the school faces a significant drop in enrollment for the coming school year because of a sharp decrease in the number of freshman students seeking to enroll at Loyola this fall.

University spokeswoman Meredith Hartley tells 99.5FM that school officials are gathering data to provide an accurate picture of the school's enrollment situation. That information is expected to be released to the University community first, possibly this week, and then to the public and the media.

Hartley acknowledges the anticipated drop in enrollment is significant but not as big as some media outlets have reported.

"There was a figure of 45% drop in enrollment that was reported by the Advocate today. That figure was inaccurately reported using outdated information," Hartley said.

The enrollment drop is detailed in a May 17 email to the university's staff. It could cost Loyola millions of dollars and may require budget cuts.
