Jefferson Parish has received a $15.3 million state loan for sewer projects.
The low-interest loan from the Department of Environmental Quality will be used for new or improved lift stations, force mains and treatment plants, including three lift stations in progress on the parish's west bank.
The Times-Picayune reports 16 more projects are ready for bid or in design. The 20-year loan carries a 0.95 interest rate.
Parish President John Young's administration highlighted the availability of such loans in its successful push to pass a 3.58-mill property tax for sewers on the Oct. 19 ballot.
The $8.8 million annual revenue stream from the millage guarantees Jefferson's ability to repay the loan.
